Pollen and babies

It’s March 23, and the Queen Bee and Big Drone have done their first quick hive inspection on the two remaining hives. We went into the winter with 7 and ended up with 2, sadly. The winter was brutal and we had a time in December and January of warmer temperatures and the queen had laid brood. Then came February and March and we had weeks of frigid temperatures where the bees couldn’t move off the brood (babies) and starved to death in their cluster. It is a harsh reality, but one we will try to learn from and continue on. We are scouting out a few more locations for more hives and plan to move Drone 3’s hive to it’s normal location in a week or two.

Here is a video of our lovely ladies bringing in the pollen.
